Rescue Dogs Rock NYC in New York City is a non-profit animal rescue founded in 2015. Their goal is to save abused and at-risk dogs (and the odd cat!) from kill shelters by providing medical care and behavioral evaluations before placing them in new forever homes. Since their inception, they've saved over 5,500 animals!
Abuse, neglect, cruelty, and medical cases cost shelters the most money and are the most urgent. As a result, these animals are often the first to be euthanized.
Rescue Dogs Rock NYC focuses on the rescue of these urgent animals and immediately provides them with the routine, emergency, or specialized medical care they need and deserve. They go beyond just vet care and rehabilitate each animal using trainers and behaviorists to help overcome issues related to past trauma.
Rescue Dogs Rock NYC survives solely on donations and relies primarily on fundraising to help animals in need. They aim to educate people that unwanted companion animals are not damaged goods or unworthy but can be incredible family pets.

Because shelter dogs are full of love!
Is it because they know you saved them and love you harder for it?
I can't say for certain, but yes.
Jokes aside, there are three things all shelter dogs need to thrive in their new home:
Older shelter dogs, generally 1+ years old, may have experienced a lot of trauma, which often results in one of 8 common behavioral issues:
These issues are correctable! Your dog isn't broken, they're just damaged. You can fix them with enough love, patience, and a good training plan.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, finding good dog trainers can be hard. Like everything else, dog training is moving only. but there are great online dog trainers that are proven to work and can help get your new pup on the right path.
You can learn a lot about an animal welfare organization just by looking at their name.
